May Update On Mr.Welsh's classes...

Sorry it has been a while since I have had a chance to post but things have been so busy!  As always, if you have any questions or concerns, you may reach me at twelsh@plymouth.k12.ma.us and I will get back to you immediately.  Here are some quick updates as to what is occurring in my classes. World History-- We have recently studied the Roman Republic and the Middle Ages.  We learned about the greatness of Rome and why it eventually fell.  We also learned about the barbarian invasions and the introduction of feudalism, the importance of the church and the impact of the bubonic plague.  Students continue to demonstrate knowledge in oral classroom discussions, reading comprehensions, video clip responses, quizzes and writing prompts. Pre-Voc-  Students start the class by completing a couple of the several jobs that they rotate through such as washing dishes, using the dishwasher, running the washing machine, cleaning windows, sweeping floors or cleaning ...

Quick Update on Mr. Welsh's classes

World History-  We have finished up our unit on Greece and are now studying Ancient Rome.  Students recently completed a Slides Presentation on Greek mythology before reviewing for and taking their midterm exams.  While studying Greece, they also learned about the differences between the two major city states, Athens and Sparta, and studied the Persian Wars. Pre-Voc-  Students continue to rotate through daily jobs which include shredding, laundry, dishes, washing windows, and tasks related to the general upkeep of the room.  Recent classwork has included identifying safe and unsafe scenarios, filling out personal information forms, writing checks and calling businesses to request information. Social Skills- We have been studying substance abuse and the effects it has on relationships.  Students are in the midst of completing their final project on this unit which entails researching various commonly abused substances and creating an informational pamphl...

Mr. Welsh's Classroom Updates

World History- Students recently completed a unit on Ancient China.  Activities included classroom discussions, watching and analyzing videos, reading comprehensions and a culminating project that involved making a Slides Presentation using their Google accounts.  Students learned about Confucius's philosophy, the Great Wall of China, a general overview of the various ruling dynasties, and conducted their own research for the culminating presentation. Pre-Voc-  Students continue to start off the period by rotating through various jobs such as doing laundry, washing dishes, cleaning windows, sweeping the floor, shredding and cleaning the bathroom.  A life skill is also targeted each period.  Recently worked on life skills include using grocery flyers, reading social signals, budgeting, and reading a menu. Panther Pals Game Day!

We had a huge turnout at Panther Pals today!  Students met in a circle to start the group, they shared a high and low of their day and answered a funny ice-breaker question: "If you could have anything delivered to your door every day, what would it be?"  Here are some pictures from the board game fun! Hello All, Here is a quick update on Mr. Welsh's classes: World History- We are continuing to study Ancient Egypt.  Students watched a documentary of the discovery of King Tut's tomb and have been learning about Cleopatra, Egyptian social classes, hieroglyphics, primary and secondary sources and have been answering document based questions.  The final assessment for this unit will be a Powerpoint presentation that students will begin working on next period. Pre-Vocational Skills:  In this class the kids are continuing to perform their job tasks at the beginning of each period.  We also worked on following recipes by making smoothies again as well.  Recent classroom lessons have included budgeting using money manipulatives and discussing customer service.  The kids will begin role playing customer service scenarios next week.   We had a great turn out at the Homecoming Dance this weekend! I wasn't able to get a group picture because it was tough to find them all but here are a few action shots!   It was a great time had by all!  Ryan & Caden looking sharp!  Caden & Jonathan on the dance floor!
