Mr. Welsh's Classroom Updates

World History- Students recently completed a unit on Ancient China.  Activities included classroom discussions, watching and analyzing videos, reading comprehensions and a culminating project that involved making a Slides Presentation using their Google accounts.  Students learned about Confucius's philosophy, the Great Wall of China, a general overview of the various ruling dynasties, and conducted their own research for the culminating presentation.

Pre-Voc-  Students continue to start off the period by rotating through various jobs such as doing laundry, washing dishes, cleaning windows, sweeping the floor, shredding and cleaning the bathroom.  A life skill is also targeted each period.  Recently worked on life skills include using grocery flyers, reading social signals, budgeting, and reading a menu.

Social Skills- We recently watched the movie Temple Grandin, a movie about a woman diagnosed with autism who became an incredibly successful businesswoman and advocate for people with disabilities.  After watching the movie, students were given an assignment where they had to choose a famous person with a disability and then make a Google Slides presentation on them.

Algebra I-  We have been learning how to solve basic one-step equations.  This is a very new concept for most of them but they are making progress.  We will begin solving multi-step equations this week.  Symphony Math, a computer program designed to reinforce basic math skills, is also being used.

Algebra II-  Students recently completed units on the coordinate plane, absolute value equations, finding slope and the distributive property.  An emphasis has also but put on solving basic word problems and using a program called Symphony Math in order to sure up basic mathematical skills.

Biology-  We have recently been learning about photosynthesis and cellular respiration in this class.  Students were required to learn the chemical equations for each process and make a Slides Presentation on photosynthesis.  We are now getting into cell division.
