Here is a quick update on Mr. Welsh's classes:
World History- We are continuing to study Ancient Egypt. Students watched a documentary of the discovery of King Tut's tomb and have been learning about Cleopatra, Egyptian social classes, hieroglyphics, primary and secondary sources and have been answering document based questions. The final assessment for this unit will be a Powerpoint presentation that students will begin working on next period.
Pre-Vocational Skills: In this class the kids are continuing to perform their job tasks at the beginning of each period. We also worked on following recipes by making smoothies again as well. Recent classroom lessons have included budgeting using money manipulatives and discussing customer service. The kids will begin role playing customer service scenarios next week.
Social Skills: In this class students have been learning about appropriate conduct in the workplace. Recently, students were assigned to complete a Powerpoint presentation on how to "Ace a Job Interview" and then present it to the class. We have also been discussing post high school plans and independent living skills such as paying bills, getting an apartment, paying rent, and getting a first car.
Algebra I: Students recently completed the unit on adding and subtracting negative numbers. The kids have now moved on to multiplying and dividing negative numbers. There will be a quiz on this on Monday 10/30.
Algebra II: In this class students have been learning how to solve single step and multi-step inequalities. Students are also learning problem solving skills to solve simple word problems that involve money.
Biology: The focus in this class has remained on the cell. Specifically, students have been learning how materials move in and out of the cell through processes called active and passive transport. As part of this unit students did a lab where they dropped food coloring in water to illustrate the concept of diffusion. A quiz was given on 10/25 and the next unit will be on photosynthesis.
